The Amazing Story of the Butterfly Photos
If you've been wondering where I got those beautiful butterfly photos I've used throughout my site, I have Selia Quinn to thank for them. Selia hosts Habitat House Concerts in Houston, Texas and offers a safe haven for the critters she loves, and that includes butterflies. She found a pupa in her yard that had fallen from a limb, and she took it inside and allowed it to continue its journey to becoming a monarch. It turns out she had a lot more flutter-bye babies to come.
She recently sent the lovely photos above with this little newsletter...
Butterfly Gets Finger Ride Through Garden to
Shop for the Perfect FlowerIt finally stopped raining so I decided to release my little butterflies. Two of them climbed onto a flower, but one wouldn’t leave my finger. This being the case, I fancied that he wanted a tour of the garden to pick his own flower, and I'm always game for that, so off we went. Some flowers he just looked at, and some he climbed on, but each time, he crawled back onto my finger.
I have a rock in the garden that my sister painted a cat eye on with the same orange and black theme, so I wanted to get a picture of the butterfly on it, but he didn't want anything to do with the eye. When I tried to put him there, he crawled up my arm to get away from the hungry stare.
Eventually, the sun set on our adventure; and I started to worry about what new butterflies do in the damp night, so I decided that if they were willing to climb back on my finger, that was an indication that they weren’t ready to be wild, so I brought them all back in and secured them in my countertop aero garden with scarves so they could stay safe and dry among the flowers. I re-released them today, and they seemed happy to go outside in the sunshine. I don't know if they'll migrate, but all is well in their world for now, with sunshine, and a nice sturdy flower to perch on. Life, at it's best, is simple.
